I remember making for countless friends, for Super Bowl parties, once in a crock pot cause Erik had consumed the kitchen brewing, and once with my friends Kerri and Lance.
I also remember the countless times eating it when I was a kid. Obviously my Dad would make it, sometimes the same day, sometimes way in advance. It seemed like it was something he was always cooking. While I think he would swear to making it the same way every time, I am not entirely sure it was true. Mom would inevitably complain that it was too hot, and he'd get a glimmer in his eye and a small grin on his face as he'd watch her run to the fridge to get a glass of milk. Sarah hated beans, which is the foundation of the recipe, and would spend all of dinner meticulously picking them out. I always remember loving the heat, but in hind sight think that I endured it to try and impress my Dad :) We were kinda like Daddy Locks and the 3 Girlie Bears.
When the chili was eventually gone, we'd stuff our faces with Saltine sandwiches: little butter on one saltine a little jelly on the other and then SQUISH!!!! I loved watching the jelly squeeze through the holes in the saltine. They were the best dessert for the evening.
thanks for the memories... can't wait to keep making more....

the recipe in Dad's words:
Daddy Day's Chili:
Brown 1 1/2 lb of hamburger
Add 1 onion, diced
Add 3-4 cloves of garlic, minced
Add 28oz can of diced tomatoes
Add 28oz can of red kidney beans (drained)
Add 28oz can of pinto (chili) beans (drained)
Add 2 cans of tomato soup
Add water to desired consistency
Season to taste with; 2T chili powder (strength of chili powder varies with brand so remember you can always add but you can't subtract), 1/2 t curry powder, 1/4 t red pepper (cyan), 1/2 t ground cumin.
Enjoy!
