Since we moved here, we have wanted to see Alcatraz Island, but it has been really hard to get tickets. Yesterday it just worked out. I had no idea the island was so full of history. Apparently it started out as a Fort to protect the Harbor during the Civil War. Then is was used as a penitentiary, then the American Indians tried to reclaim the island in the 60's after the island had been abandoned.

Today the island is pretty run down, but the National Park Service has come in and is really trying to take care of the place. There was an audio tour we took, that lead us through the different areas of the prison, telling stories of attempted escapes and about the daily workings of the prison.
We had a great time! I highly recommend seeing it if you are ever in town.

HOORAY!! It's the Youngdales!
So see any ghosts at Alkatraz? Hear the desolate moans and cries of prisoners long dead?
Always have wanted to go there.
